Pastor David Ibiyeomie shared how giving his N5,000 salary to God in 1997 led to receiving N25,000, food, and a job offer. His testimony highlights faith-based giving, sparking debates on social media about the prosperity gospel and its impact on financially vulnerable believers
Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries recently shared a personal testimony about the transformative power of giving. In a video posted on Instagram, Ibiyeomie recalled an event from 1997 when he gave his entire salary of N5,000 to God. He claimed that shortly after this act of faith, an unknown woman gifted him N25,000, a bag of rice, beans, and a crate of eggs. This generous donation was allegedly prompted by divine instruction.
Ibiyeomie emphasized that his decision to give the money, despite his wife needing it for market purchases, was a test of faith. He believes that such acts of giving, done in obedience to divine prompting, can lead to miraculous returns. He recounted that the same day, the woman's husband, described as notoriously stingy, surprisingly gave her N1 million after securing a job in Abuja.
The pastor's story has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some users praised his faith and generosity, while others criticized the narrative as exploitative, arguing that it promotes a prosperity gospel that could mislead financially vulnerable followers. Comments ranged from supportive to skeptical, with some users calling for more discernment and caution in how religious leaders present messages about giving and financial miracles.
