Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Nigeria's Minister of Interior, addressed criticisms of President Bola Tinubu's administration during an interview on Channels Television. He emphasized that Tinubu is not a magician, stating that resolving Nigeria's longstanding issues, which have persisted for over a century, cannot happen overnight. According to Tunji-Ojo, while the government may face skepticism, it has made progress on various fronts.

He noted that the current administration campaigned on the promise of renewed hope, which signifies a desire to rebuild and restore faith in the system. The minister acknowledged that Nigeria's challenges stem from years of mismanagement and emphasized that fixing these problems requires time and patience.

He expressed confidence in the government’s capacity to make positive changes despite public frustration. With a youth-led nationwide protest planned from August 1-10 to highlight economic hardships, Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to understand the complexities of governance and the need for gradual reform. He reassured Nigerians that the government is on the right track, stating that “to reinvigorate hope that has dwindled, you need a bit of time.”
