The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) introduces a multi-purpose NIN card for identification and financial transactions. The card facilitates ATM withdrawals, online payments, and money transfers. Issued through banks, it promotes financial inclusion and addresses past challenges. Rollout expected soon, enhancing security and convenience for Nigerians.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has revealed an exciting new initiative, unveiling a National Identification Number (NIN) card that will serve not only as an identification tool but also as a financial instrument. In an interview on Channels TV, NIMC’s Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications, and Peter Iwegbu, Director of Card Management Services, outlined the card’s various uses, which now include facilitating ATM withdrawals, online payments, and money transfers.

Iwegbu emphasized the seamless integration of the card’s chip with Nigeria's banking system, enabling it to function across all banks for a range of financial services. In addition to its role in banking, the card maintains its core function as an official identification document, offering Nigerians a reliable means to access services.

To ensure widespread access, Adegoke explained that the card will be issued by banks, in contrast to the previous system where individuals collected their cards directly from NIMC offices. Nigerians will now be able to apply for the card through banks and online portals, with options to pick it up at a branch or have it delivered to their homes.

The NIN card is being developed in partnership with key institutions like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS). According to the NIMC officials, this initiative is expected to enhance financial inclusion, benefiting millions of previously underserved Nigerians while addressing past challenges of distribution and acceptance.

The rollout of the card is set for the coming months, with security features still undergoing final testing. T
