In a shocking turn of events, pandemonium erupted at the Porsche Nightclub in Oba, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, as unidentified armed hoodlums stormed the venue. The assailants claimed the lives of two individuals, injured several others, and left the community in a state of shock.
Late on Sunday, as funseekers gathered at the popular nightclub, chaos ensued when armed individuals, reportedly targeting the club's owner, encountered stiff resistance from security personnel on site. Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene, recounting that the gunmen, frustrated in their attempt to kidnap the club owner, resorted to indiscriminate shooting.
Emeka, an eyewitness near the scene, disclosed, "The gunmen attempted to kidnap the owner of the club, but were resisted by security men attached to the club. As a result of the resistance, the gunmen started shooting sporadically, shooting many people in the process."
The situation escalated as the attackers beheaded one of the security operatives who bravely resisted them. Fatal stabbings were reported as well, leaving the community in shock and panic. Residents, caught in the crossfire, ran for safety, while those who were away from the community during the incident hesitated to return until the following morning.
According to another source living near the scene, "It was a scary moment last night. The gunmen suddenly started shooting indiscriminately. There were a lot of fatalities. Many sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack."
The attackers, in a gruesome act, cut off one of the legs of a security man before fleeing the scene. The police arrived later, confirming that the owner of the nightclub, whose identity remains withheld, was kidnapped along with five others. As of now, there is no information from the kidnappers, leaving the fate of the victims uncertain.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police command, confirmed the incident, revealing, "Our men responded to a distress call following a shooting incident that occurred at a nightclub known as Posch in Oba." He disclosed that two persons were killed, including two vigilantes, and three others sustained gunshot wounds. While the situation is being monitored, no arrests have been made, and peace has been restored to the Oba community.
