The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) reports that NIN enrollment has surpassed 110 million, marking a 2.39% increase since May 2024. Director General Abisoye Coker-Odusote credited the success to Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), which has connected Nigerians to essential services, including financial inclusion, education, and healthcare.

The Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has revealed that over 110 million Nigerians have enrolled for the National Identification Number (NIN). This represents a 2.39% increase from the 107.34 million recorded as of May 2024. Speaking at the National Day of Identity event in Abuja, Coker-Odusote emphasized the critical role of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in driving Nigeria's economic growth. She highlighted that DPI connects citizens to essential services, including healthcare, education, and financial inclusion. The NIMC has played a key role in this transformation by linking NINs with phone numbers and harmonizing them with Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) to facilitate digital payments and services.

The DG also pointed to the success of the Student Loan Initiative, which has benefited 257 institutions, registered over 332,000 students, and provided loans to more than 18,000 students, showcasing how DPI can help reduce financial barriers in education. The NIMC's achievements underscore the importance of continued collaboration between government agencies and private sector stakeholders in advancing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.

This growth is seen as a significant step towards the broader digitalization of the Nigerian economy, enhancing access to services for millions of citizens.
