The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has identified five websites allegedly harvesting Nigerians' data fraudulently. This revelation comes in response to concerns raised by Paradigm Initiative about unauthorized websites selling sensitive personal information, including National Identification Numbers (NIN) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVN).

The websites named by NIMC are idfinder.com.ng, Verify.Ng/sign in, championtech.com.ng, trustyonline.com, and anyverify.com. The Commission strongly advises the public against providing data to these potentially fraudulent platforms.

NIMC assures that Nigerians' sensitive data has not been compromised, emphasizing robust security measures in place. The Commission's database adheres to ISO 27001:2013 Information Security Management System Standard and complies with Nigerian Data Protection Law.

The statement reaffirms that NIMC's licensed partners are not authorized to store NIN data, only to verify it through approved channels. The Commission is collaborating with security operatives to apprehend those posing as online vendors.

Paradigm Initiative had previously expressed concern about unauthorized websites offering access to sensitive personal and financial data of Nigerian citizens for as little as 100 Naira. The organization warned of potential risks, including identity theft and financial fraud.

NIMC urges Nigerians to remain vigilant, avoid sharing data with unauthorized sites, and rely on verified sources for accurate information. The Commission remains committed to secure identity management and protecting critical national assets.
