The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has taken a significant step in his legal strategy by dismissing his legal team shortly after an unsuccessful bid for release from continued detention. According to a source, the change in the legal team was officially communicated to the former legal counsel, led by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a prominent legal figure in Nigeria.
The source revealed, "After the Supreme Court ruling, Nnamdi Ejimakor and Nnameka Ejiofor met with our leader, and he asked them to formally terminate the legal contract. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria has received the letter terminating the contract." Kanu has reportedly approached another legal luminary from Cross River State to handle his legal matters moving forward, though it remains uncertain if the former chief legal officer for Nigeria will accept the brief.
The decision to disband the legal team stems from Kanu's dissatisfaction with their efforts to secure his freedom and transfer him from the Department of State Services cell to the Kuje Correctional Service for better conditions. Kanu is also reportedly unhappy with his medical team, which he believes has not done enough to facilitate the transfer of his treatment to his preferred private doctors outside Nigeria. This move suggests a strategic shift in Kanu's legal and medical approach amid ongoing challenges.
