The NNPCL has refuted claims in a viral video alleging its fuel burns faster than Dangote Refinery’s. The company dismissed the test as flawed and misleading, emphasizing that its PMS meets industry standards. NNPCL warned against misinformation and vowed legal action against false claims aimed at damaging its reputation.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed allegations circulating in a viral video that its premium motor spirit (PMS) burns faster than fuel from Dangote Refinery. In a statement released on Saturday, the company described the claim as baseless, misleading, and lacking any scientific credibility.

The controversy arose after a content creator conducted an informal test, claiming that petrol purchased from an NNPCL station in Ojodu Berger at ₦945 per liter ran out faster in a generator compared to fuel from a Dangote Refinery outlet in Alapere, sold at ₦925 per liter. According to the video, the NNPCL fuel lasted only 17 minutes, while the Dangote fuel powered the generator for 33 minutes.

Responding to these claims, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, stated that such amateur assessments should not be taken seriously. He emphasized that NNPCL fuel meets industry standards and undergoes rigorous quality checks. The company further revealed that a large percentage of the fuel sold at its stations, including the one featured in the video, originates from Dangote Refinery itself.

NNPCL also warned against deliberate misinformation and attempts to damage its reputation, vowing to take legal action against individuals spreading false claims. It urged Nigerians to rely on verified sources rather than viral content that lacks professional oversight. The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability of high-quality fuel at competitive prices while maintaining global industry standards.
