Abbas Sani Abbas, ex-Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, defects from the NNPP to the APC. His move adds to the wave of defections from NNPP, following the sacking of key officials. Abbas vows to support the APC’s growth in Kano and beyond.
Abbas Sani Abbas, who previously served as the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, has officially left the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). His decision to switch parties adds to the growing list of defections from NNPP, particularly after the sacking of several key officials from the party last month.
During a visit to the residence of Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, Abbas made his announcement and expressed his commitment to working with the APC to ensure its success in Kano State. This move comes after a wave of defections, often referred to as the "Barau Tsunami," in which several members of the NNPP from all 44 local government areas of Kano State abandoned the party in favor of the APC.
Abbas’ defection follows calls by some NNPP leaders for Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to take stronger control of governance. Following his sacking, Abbas reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, pledging his support to help the party thrive not just in Kano but beyond.
Senator Barau, who received Abbas at his residence, expressed the APC's dedication to fostering good governance and inclusivity. He assured Abbas that the APC would continue to accommodate everyone willing to contribute to Nigeria's future, emphasizing the importance of unity and service to the people.
