Unknown assailants attacked the family home of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, located in Kogi State’s Okehi Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the attack occurred around 1:00 a.m., involving at least three unidentified individuals armed with cutlasses and firearms. The intruders vandalized parts of the residence, shattering windows and damaging property before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured during the attack.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert who focuses on the Lake Chad region, shared news of the incident on Thursday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to Makama, the Chief Security Officer to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, Yakubu Ovanja, alerted authorities immediately after the break-in.
Responding to the distress call, a team of officers from the Okehi Division quickly mobilized to the location to assess the situation. Preliminary investigations are underway, but as of now, the motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate, has not publicly commented on the incident. Her silence has sparked concerns from constituents who view the attack as potentially politically motivated, given the region’s history of election-related tensions.
Security forces have assured the public that investigations are ongoing, and residents are urged to remain calm but vigilant as authorities work to uncover those responsible for the act.
