The Digest:

Doma A community in Katsina State has been completely deserted following a brutal February 3 attack that left dozens dead and forced residents to flee, the MaiGari (traditional ruler), Magaji Yahaya Doma, has revealed. Speaking to Premium Times, the community leader said: "The town is scattered. My people have run in all directions... As I speak to you, Doma is empty." Around 70-100 gunmen on motorcycles attacked in broad daylight for three hours, shooting anyone outside, burning homes and shops. No meaningful security presence has been established since. Residents dispute official figures of 13 dead, insisting 27 were buried. The attack followed a fragile September 2025 peace deal between the community and armed groups. The MaiGari's plea: "Give us security. Let our people return. Let them farm in peace."

Key Points:
  • The complete emptying of Doma A represents catastrophic failure of both peace deals and security response.
  • It highlights the fragility of informal truces without state enforcement and protection.
  • Displaced families face destitution, with farms abandoned and livelihoods destroyed.
  • This signals the deepening humanitarian crisis in North-West Nigeria's banditry conflict.
  • The timing, with official silence and delayed response, compounds community trauma.
Doma A remains deserted, its people scattered across neighbouring towns, awaiting security guarantees to return to their farms and rebuild shattered lives.
