National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has denied Nasir El-Rufai’s claims that he is plotting against him due to a 2031 presidential ambition. Ribadu dismissed the allegations as false, emphasizing his focus on national security. The dispute highlights tensions within the APC and Nigeria’s political landscape.
National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has dismissed allegations made by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who accused him of orchestrating a smear campaign due to political ambitions.
In a recent interview, El-Rufai claimed that Ribadu was working to undermine his reputation as part of a broader strategy to position himself for Nigeria’s 2031 presidential election. However, Ribadu swiftly responded, rejecting the claims as baseless and urging the public to disregard them.
"If my silence wouldn't be mistaken for consent, I would have ignored him," Ribadu stated, emphasizing that he is focused solely on his current responsibilities. He denied any intention to run for president and insisted that his efforts remain committed to the success of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Ribadu also noted that despite repeated provocations, he has refrained from making negative statements about El-Rufai out of respect for their past association.
The political dispute has sparked widespread reactions, with analysts interpreting the feud as a reflection of growing tensions within Nigeria’s ruling class. While some view El-Rufai’s accusations as politically motivated, others speculate about deeper power struggles in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
For now, Ribadu insists he is fully dedicated to national security and governance, dismissing any speculation about his future political ambitions.
