Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has shed light on the decision to name a newly commissioned road after renowned author and Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of Arterial Road N20, Wike emphasized the importance of honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to Nigeria's progress and development.
"The proposal to dedicate the road to Prof. Wole Soyinka is rooted in the importance of honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to progress and development during their lifetime, thus setting an example for others," said Wike.
The road, constructed for N30.6 billion, has brought relief to residents of the FCT. Wike commended the contractor for ensuring the timely completion of the project, underscoring its significance in improving infrastructure and facilitating smoother transportation in the area.
In response to the announcement, there has been a mix of reactions from the public. While some have applauded the gesture as a fitting tribute to Soyinka's legacy and achievements, others have criticized it, alleging it was a payment for supporting Tinubu.
