NYSC members are outraged after receiving a ₦33,000 monthly allowance, despite the federal government's announcement of an increase to ₦77,000. Following the implementation of a new minimum wage, corps members express frustration over the discrepancy and demand transparency from the government regarding their allowances.

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members are expressing their outrage after receiving a monthly allowance of ₦33,000, despite the federal government's announcement of an increment to ₦77,000. This controversy emerged following a June agreement between the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the federal government, which resulted in a new minimum wage of ₦70,000. On July 29, President Bola Tinubu signed the new minimum wage into law, and the government recently stated that the new NYSC allowance would take effect along with back pay for previous months.

However, many corps members were dismayed to find their September allowance had not changed from the previous rate. Numerous complaints flooded social media platforms, with members calling the government's promises "lies" and expressing frustration over the discrepancy. One corps member commented on the situation, emphasizing their disbelief at the government’s handling of the issue and the continued struggle for adequate compensation.

The NYSC's failure to deliver on the raised allowance has sparked widespread discontent among corps members, who are demanding transparency and accountability from the government.
