Amid ongoing tensions within the Lagos State House of Assembly, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and fellow lawmakers have met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting, held on Tuesday, aimed at resolving the leadership crisis that recently led to Obasa’s impeachment and subsequent reinstatement.

Obasa arrived at the villa at 2:50 p.m., joining his colleagues who had earlier arrived in two coaster buses. The intervention of political leaders and the Lagos State Governing Advisory Council (GAC) facilitated his reinstatement, but lingering tensions persist within the legislative body.

Beyond the impeachment controversy, the Speaker remains entangled in legal battles. He has filed a corruption case against former Speaker Mojisola Meranda, while also challenging allegations that led to his removal—claims including fraud, high-handedness, and abuse of office. The court is set to hear these matters on March 17.

Political analysts view the meeting with Tinubu as a crucial step toward restoring stability within the Lagos Assembly. However, opposition figures argue that the crisis reflects deeper political struggles within the ruling party.

The outcome of Tinubu’s intervention remains uncertain, but it is expected to shape the future of leadership within Lagos’ legislative arm.
