Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki dismisses concerns over his fallout with Nyesom Wike, expressing confidence in Edo voters' ability to choose wisely in the upcoming gubernatorial election. Obaseki stands firm on his "do or die" statement, warning of the consequences if the opposition APC wins control of Edo State.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has downplayed concerns about his fallout with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stating that it will not affect the People's Democratic Party’s (PDP) chances in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

Wike had been a major supporter of Obaseki during his 2020 victory over All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Osagie Ize-Iyamu. However, the political alliance between the two leaders soured, with Wike now withholding his support for Obaseki’s current candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

In a recent interview on Channels Television, Obaseki expressed confidence in the intelligence and independence of Edo voters. "Edo people are not that dumb," he said, adding that they are fully capable of making informed decisions without external influence. He further stated that despite political disagreements, he remains focused on the needs of the people, which has led to criticism from some of his former allies.

Obaseki also stood by his earlier statement that the election is a "do or die affair," arguing that if the APC gains control, it would be disastrous for Edo State due to their alleged reckless behavior. He emphasized the importance of preventing the opposition from taking power and vowed that the people of Edo would resist any attempts to manipulate the outcome of the election.
