Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki alleges the All Progressives Congress (APC) is borrowing between N2 billion and N5 billion to finance the inauguration of incoming Governor Monday Okpebholo. He also accuses the APC of mismanaging funds set aside for projects, warning of a manipulation of public perception.

Edo State's outgoing governor, Godwin Obaseki, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is borrowing between N2 billion and N5 billion to finance the inauguration of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the new governor. Speaking during the inauguration of a 10-man caretaker committee in Benin City, Obaseki claimed that the incoming government has already begun depleting nearly N27 billion allocated for projects and obligations under his administration.

Obaseki voiced concerns about the APC's actions, accusing them of attempting to manipulate public perception by spending large sums during the holiday season. He also lamented that his government was excluded from the inauguration preparations. Despite the tense political environment, Obaseki assured the public that he would continue to support the party and help reclaim what he described as their "stolen mandate."

Meanwhile, Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate defeated in the September 21, 2024, governorship election, vowed that the party would fight to reclaim the mandate through legal means. The APC has responded by alleging that Obaseki's government mismanaged state funds, claiming that over N14 billion was siphoned from Edo State's account in a single week.

As the political battle heats up in the state, both parties remain embroiled in a dispute over finances, governance, and the future direction of Edo State.
