Chijioke Ihunwo, chairman of Obio-Akpor LGA in Rivers State, has appointed 100 new special assistants to help with local governance. This follows his earlier appointment of 130 special advisers. Ihunwo is a close ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and has made significant administrative changes in the LGA.

Chijioke Ihunwo, the chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, has appointed 100 new special assistants to support his administration’s goals. The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter) on January 20, 2025, where Ihunwo expressed his desire to enhance his team’s ability to serve the people of Obio-Akpor. This appointment follows a previous hiring of 130 special advisers just earlier this month, underlining his commitment to improving local governance.

Among the newly appointed special assistants are Augustina Élodi, Obi Chima, Abi Chinazor Clara, Ginikachukwu Onyeagusi, and others. Ihunwo, who has been a close ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is known for his active administrative efforts in the area. Notably, in July 2024, he appointed 100 special assistants while serving as the caretaker committee chairman of the LGA.

In another significant move, Ihunwo made headlines last October when he removed former Governor Nyesom Wike’s name from the administrative block of the council secretariat, signaling his alignment with the current state leadership. His latest appointments further reinforce his political influence and commitment to strengthening the local government.
