Obiora Okonkwo has withdrawn from the Anambra APC governorship primary election, citing safety concerns for his supporters and issues with the process. Despite his exit, he remains committed to Anambra's development and supporting President Bola Tinubu's agenda. Other aspirants have also pulled out, leaving the race narrowing.

Obiora Okonkwo, a leading aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Anambra State, has officially withdrawn from the race. In a heartfelt letter to his supporters, Okonkwo described his withdrawal as a “difficult but necessary” decision driven by concerns over the safety of his followers and inconsistencies he observed in the primary election process.

After reflecting on the political climate within the APC in Anambra, Okonkwo said he could not justify endangering the lives of his supporters for the sake of an election. He emphasized that certain recent developments were at odds with his values and principles.

Despite stepping aside, Okonkwo reaffirmed his dedication to public service, pledging to continue contributing to the development of Anambra and Nigeria at large. He also voiced strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s national development agenda, committing to assist in promoting economic growth and social progress across the country.

Okonkwo expressed deep gratitude to his political allies, stakeholders, and grassroots supporters, describing their encouragement as a constant source of strength. He concluded with a message of hope for Anambra’s future, wishing success for the state and its younger generations.

His exit follows that of two other aspirants, Chukwuma Umeoji and Paul Chukwuma, who pulled out of the APC primary shortly before the exercise commenced.

As the race tightens, Okonkwo’s withdrawal marks a significant shift in the political dynamics ahead of Anambra’s gubernatorial election.
