The Kogi State Government has denied reports that Governor Usman Ododo has defected to the PDP, clarifying that he remains a committed member of the APC. The rumors arose from a viral photo taken at a PDP event in Taraba, but officials insist the governor’s loyalty to his party is unwavering.

In response to widespread speculation, the Kogi State Government has firmly denied reports suggesting that Governor Usman Ododo has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The rumors began circulating after a photo of Governor Ododo surfaced, showing him in the company of PDP governors during a meeting at the Taraba State Government House.

The image quickly went viral, sparking conversations and concerns about a possible political shift. However, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, stated on Saturday clarifying the situation. He emphasized that Governor Ododo remains a committed member of the APC and has no intention of leaving the ruling party.

“We urge the people to rest assured that Kogi remains APC and will continue to support the laudable policies and progress being recorded by the President of our dear nation, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Fanwo stated. He further highlighted that the governors of various parties are united in their support for President Tinubu’s efforts to join the nation.

Fanwo criticized the media reports as “reckless and unprofessional,” urging journalists to adhere to the principles of accuracy and integrity in their reporting. He clarified that the photo in question was taken at the wedding of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas's daughter, an event attended by dignitaries from across the country, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and governors from various political affiliations.

The Kogi State Government’s swift response to these rumors comes just a day after the Supreme Court upheld Governor Ododo’s victory in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, dismissing the appeal by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Muritala Ajaka. Fanwo suggested that the rumors may have been fueled by those dissatisfied with the court’s decision.

In his statement, Fanwo reiterated Governor Ododo’s unwavering loyalty to the APC and his commitment to supporting the party’s success both in Kogi State and nationally.
