The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a decisive victory in the Ogun State local government elections, winning all 20 chairmanship and 236 councillorship seats. Babatunde Osibodu, chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), announced the results on Sunday in Abeokuta, confirming the party's dominance.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, who cast his vote on Saturday, praised the strong voter turnout, attributing it to the public's trust in democratic processes. He also commended OGSIEC for ensuring electoral materials reached all areas and applauded security agencies for maintaining peace throughout the election.
Ahead of the polls, Governor Abiodun expressed confidence in the APC’s victory, citing the “intimidating projects” executed by his administration as evidence of the party’s impact. He emphasized that these achievements had effectively neutralized opposition efforts in the state.
The elections recorded 613,156 votes across 236 wards, showcasing Ogun residents' active participation in local governance.
