A man named Tahiru Hamidu has been apprehended in Ogun State for allegedly raping a mentally unstable married woman. The incident took place in the Owode community of the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area. The state's police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest on September 18, 2024.

The suspect is accused of taking advantage of the woman's mental condition to repeatedly engage in non-consensual sexual acts. Reports indicate that he lured her to a cassava plantation where he assaulted her on multiple occasions before being caught by the police from the Owode Egba Division.

In a troubling twist, Hamidu is also alleged to have threatened the woman's brother-in-law, Shofolahan, warning him against interfering with his actions. This intimidation was reportedly intended to prevent Shofolahan from protecting his sister-in-law from further harm.

Odutola emphasized that the survivor is mentally incapacitated and that the brother-in-law had reported the case out of concern for her safety. He had received threats from Hamidu, demanding to be allowed continued access to the woman.

Authorities are continuing their investigation following Hamidu's arrest, focusing on the multiple incidents of sexual violence and the threats made against the brother-in-law. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the protection of vulnerable individuals within communities and the need for robust measures against such heinous acts.
