Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, has made an appeal to Biafra agitators for a 40-day ceasefire with the aim of securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Factional Secretary General of Ohanaeze, announced that this ceasefire should commence on October 31.
Isiguzoro mentioned ongoing behind-the-scenes discussions regarding the potential release of Kanu. He emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline among Biafra agitators during the 40-day period to create a conducive environment for fruitful negotiations.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo highlighted the significance of diplomatic channels for engaging with relevant authorities and achieving the desired results. They acknowledged the suffering endured by the people of the Southeast since Nnamdi Kanu's incarceration and expressed hope for positive outcomes following the Imo State Governorship elections in November 2023.
The organization also called for forgiveness from Nigerians whom Kanu might have offended, stressing the importance of collective involvement in restoring peace and security in the Southeast. Ohanaeze Ndigbo reaffirmed its commitment to working behind the scenes to bring about this vital objective. The release of Nnamdi Kanu is anticipated as a "surprise package for the Southeast
