Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, revealed he bought a new office chair after former governor Godwin Obaseki took the official one upon leaving office. Speaking on Channels TV, Okpebholo emphasized that financial investigations would naturally unfold while asserting his victory was driven by Edo people's desire for change.

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has revealed that he personally purchased an office chair after his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, left with the official one upon exiting office.

Speaking on Channels TV's Politics Today on Thursday, Okpebholo explained that while he would not personally initiate a probe into Obaseki’s tenure, the state system would naturally uncover any financial irregularities.

“The system will probe them. A lot of money is tied up in different places, and when the time comes, the truth will come out,” he stated.

He recounted his experience upon assuming office, saying, “I had to buy my chair. Obaseki took the one in the office that had the Nigerian Coat of Arms. If someone can take an office chair, what else wouldn’t they take?”

The governor dismissed claims of political godfatherism, attributing his electoral success to divine intervention. He insisted that the Edo people wanted a change and would vote for him again even in two decades.

“In my Senate race, everything was against us—no water, no light, no fuel, no money—but we still won. The people spoke,” he declared.

Okpebholo’s comments have sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians criticizing Obaseki’s actions, while others questioned the governor’s decision to discuss the issue publicly instead of focusing on governance.
