Edo State Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, has criticized the recent commissioning of the Stella Obasanjo Hospital by former Governor Godwin Obaseki, calling it a “scam.” Okpebholo claims the facility, located in Benin City, was not completed before the commissioning, with ongoing construction and a lack of necessary equipment.

During his inspection of the hospital, accompanied by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa and Health Commissioner Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, Okpebholo expressed disappointment, stating that the hospital’s visible defects were merely covered up by superficial cosmetic work like painting and installing air conditioners.

He emphasized that the commissioning was a political move to mislead the public into believing the hospital was operational. Okpebholo pledged to address the structural flaws, work with the contractor, and ensure the hospital is properly completed to serve the people of Edo. Dr. Oshiomhole, who also assessed the facility, noted the need for further discussions with the contractor and consultant to resolve the issues.

He stated that while medical experts had assessed the building, significant improvements were still required. Okpebholo’s government aims to rectify these issues, ensuring the hospital is fully equipped and functional for the people of Edo state.
