Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has announced that 10 Delta PDP lawmakers are set to join APC, potentially shifting power in the State House of Assembly. He credited the defections to APC’s growing influence under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, as the party strengthens its position ahead of 2027.
Former Deputy Senate President and 2023 APC governorship candidate in Delta State, Ovie Omo-Agege, has announced that 10 lawmakers from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) are set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Saturday in Uro-Irri, he described this as a major political shift that could alter the power dynamics in the Delta State House of Assembly.
Omo-Agege noted that the APC already has seven lawmakers in the House, and with 10 PDP members defecting, the opposition would gain a significant 17-seat presence. He attributed the party’s growing influence to President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, which he claimed had boosted Delta State’s federal allocations to over N1 trillion within a year and a half.
At the event, Omo-Agege welcomed Chief Itiako Ikpokpo, a former two-term chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, into the APC. He described Ikpokpo’s defection as a turning point, revealing that he had long urged him to switch parties.
In his speech, Ikpokpo pledged to strengthen the APC’s structure in Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing the need for unity to dislodge the PDP. Vincent Egbogbo, APC chairman in Isoko South, echoed this sentiment, stating that these defections signaled greater political victories to come.
As the political landscape in Delta State shifts, all eyes are on the State House of Assembly to see how this realignment unfolds.
