Omobayo Godwins, the newly appointed Deputy Governor of Edo State, has shed light on his decision to defect from the Labour Party (LP) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing his allegiance to the people of Akoko Edo as his primary motivation. Godwins assumed office following the impeachment of Philip Shaibu, the former deputy governor, who was accused of misconduct and perjury.
In an appearance on the Politics Today program on Channels Television, Godwins emphasized the significance of prioritizing the welfare of his constituents. Acknowledging the role of the Labour Party in his political journey, he explained that his defection was driven by his commitment to addressing the needs of Akoko Edo, a region with significant influence from both the APC and PDP.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve, Godwins conveyed his determination to make a lasting impact on the lives of the people in Akoko Edo and Edo North. He highlighted discussions with Governor Godwin Obaseki, outlining plans for addressing critical issues and conducting a needs assessment for the region.
Furthermore, Godwins praised Asue Ighodalo, the PDP governorship candidate in Edo State, for his humility and approach to politics. His remarks underscored the importance of collaborative efforts and inclusive governance in driving progress and development in the state.
