Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga addresses social media criticism of President Bola Tinubu, dismissing the “T-Pain” nickname. Onanuga asserts that Tinubu is dedicated to alleviating Nigerians' economic hardships through policies aimed at long-term prosperity, despite the immediate challenges brought on by subsidy removal and forex unification.

Presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga recently addressed the growing social media criticism of President Bola Tinubu, specifically the nickname "T-Pain" given by some Nigerians. During an appearance on Channels Television's Sunday Politics on October 27, 2024, Onanuga countered claims that President Tinubu lacked empathy for Nigerians' economic hardships. Instead, he emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to improving the nation’s economy and alleviating citizens’ struggles.

Onanuga labeled the “T-Pain” moniker as a “mischievous” take on the President’s name and intentions, stressing that Tinubu took office not to impose hardship but to lead Nigeria toward economic recovery. "The President has never shied away from acknowledging Nigerians’ difficulties," he said. "He is working relentlessly to bring relief and prosperity to the country."

Acknowledging the impact of policies like the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates, Onanuga noted that despite high inflation, Nigeria has seen revenue growth. He insisted that these measures, though challenging in the short term, are essential for the country’s long-term stability.

Nigerians, however, continue to voice frustration over soaring food and energy costs, which significantly strain middle-class households. In response, citizens have organized protests urging the administration to reconsider its economic reforms, though the government maintains that these policies are necessary steps toward sustainable growth.
