INEC assures readiness for Ondo State's November 16 governorship election, confirming the distribution of sensitive materials across registered areas. With 34,000 police officers deployed, security measures have been implemented to ensure a smooth, secure election process across the state’s 3,933 polling units.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed its preparedness for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State, scheduled for November 16, 2024. Professor Kunle Ajayi, the INEC National Commissioner overseeing Ondo, Ogun, and Osun States, reassured the electorate that the commission is fully equipped to ensure a smooth election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today in Akure, Ajayi emphasized that INEC has completed all necessary preparations and will not disappoint the people of Ondo State. He confirmed that all sensitive materials have been distributed across the state, a process that commenced on Thursday. The distribution, carried out under tight security, involved party agents, armed police officers, and commercial buses hired by the commission to transport the materials.

Ajayi further revealed that, unlike the September 2024 governorship election in Edo State, where there were delays in material distribution, Ondo has received all sensitive materials in its registered areas (RAs). He also mentioned that by 3 p.m. on Friday, all RAs had received their materials, with the next step being their movement to the polling units.

In addition to INEC's preparations, the police have also taken significant steps to ensure security during the election. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abiodun Alabi, announced that 34,000 officers have been deployed across Ondo State. The police will oversee security at all 3,933 polling units, with additional tactical units, aerial surveillance, and marine police ensuring comprehensive coverage and security throughout the election.
