A violent clash between rival cult groups at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, on Tuesday resulted in one person feared dead and four others injured. Eyewitnesses reported that members of the Eiye and Aye cults exchanged gunfire near the polytechnic's gate, leading to a brutal confrontation. A video circulating online showed one individual striking another with a hammer. The victim was rushed to a private hospital but was turned away, later dying before reaching another hospital in Osogbo.

The incident caused widespread panic, with many students and residents fleeing the scene as gunshots rang out. According to Dr. Tope Abiola, the Dean of Student Affairs, the victim, a former student, was no longer enrolled at the institution. Though some reports suggested the attack was prompted by cult rivalry, the polytechnic's security had previously met with suspected cult members in an attempt to prevent violence.

Osun State Police have confirmed that those injured are receiving treatment, but there have been no arrests or confirmation of the death as of yet. The incident highlights the growing issue of cult-related violence in Nigerian institutions, with many still waiting for justice and accountability regarding the tragic events. Authorities continue to investigate the matter, while the community remains on edge.
