A final-year OOU student allegedly stabbed his roommate during a dispute over noise. The victim is recovering after surgery, while the suspect faces charges. Police investigations suggest substance influence as a factor. The incident highlights concerns about campus violence and conflict resolution in Nigerian universities.
In a troubling incident at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, a 25-year-old final-year Business Education student, Koya Ayodeji, allegedly stabbed his roommate, Ayobami Ajayi, a third-year Mass Communication student, during a disagreement over noise.
The altercation occurred on January 21 when Ayodeji reportedly asked Ajayi to lower the noise level in their shared room. The disagreement quickly escalated, culminating in Ayodeji stabbing Ajayi in the abdomen.
Following the incident, the injured student was rushed to the Ogun State University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu, where he underwent emergency surgery. Medical reports confirm that Ajayi is now in stable condition and receiving follow-up care.
Police investigations suggest that Ayodeji may have been under the influence of substances at the time of the incident. Authorities have ordered a toxicology screening to verify this claim. Meanwhile, Ayodeji has been taken into custody and faces charges upon the completion of the investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command has condemned the act, urging students to resolve conflicts amicably and avoid actions that could endanger lives. University officials have yet to release a statement on the incident, but the case raises concerns about campus safety and the role of institutions in promoting conflict resolution.
