Anuoluwapo Opeyori won his fifth All-African Senior Badminton Championship title by defeating Egypt’s Adham Elgamal. Opeyori dominated the first set 21-7, and clinched the second set 23-22. This victory serves as redemption following his early exit at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Anuoluwapo Opeyori has clinched his fifth All-African Senior Badminton Championship title, triumphing in the men’s singles final against Egypt’s Adham Elgamal. The match, held at the Gymnase de Japoma in Douala, Cameroon, saw Opeyori dominate the first set 21-7 but face a tough challenge in the second, eventually winning 23-22.

This victory marks Opeyori’s fifth continental championship title, having previously won four consecutive golds from 2022 to 2024. His first title came in 2019. The win also served as redemption for Opeyori after his disappointing performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he was eliminated in the group stage. Opeyori had served as Team Nigeria’s captain at the Olympic Games.

In addition to Opeyori's success, Nigeria had other notable achievements at the championship. The mixed doubles pair of Ukeh Deborah and Alhaji Aliyu Shehu earned a bronze medal, while the men’s doubles duo of Ikechukwu Victor and Emmanuel Joseph also secured a bronze after defeating Algeria.

Held from February 10 to 16, the All-African Senior Badminton Championship showcased top-tier talent across the continent, with Opeyori's victory solidifying his dominance in African badminton and marking another milestone in his illustrious career. His performance continues to inspire athletes, reaffirming his status as a leading figure in African sports.
