Legendary Hollywood actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, have been found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office confirmed that deputies conducted a welfare check on Wednesday afternoon, where they discovered the bodies of Hackman, Arakawa, and their pet dog.

Authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected, though the exact cause of death remains undetermined. Hackman, 95, was a two-time Academy Award winner, celebrated for his roles in The French Connection and Unforgiven. His decades-long career spanned over 80 films, including his portrayal of Lex Luthor in the Superman series, The Conversation, and Mississippi Burning.

Tributes have poured in for the late star, with comedian Dara O Briain hailing him as "the finest screen actor ever" and StudioCanal calling his passing "a colossal loss for cinema." Hackman’s final film appearance was in Welcome to Mooseport (2004), after which he retired from acting.

Arakawa, 63, was a classical pianist and had been married to Hackman since 1991. The couple lived a quiet life outside of Santa Fe. Hackman, who was previously married, leaves behind three children.

Hollywood mourns the loss of a cinematic icon whose influence spanned generations. The investigation into the couple’s deaths continues.
