Laolu Akande, former aide to VP Yemi Osinbajo, criticized ex-President Obasanjo for mocking other Nigerian leaders. Akande urged Obasanjo to focus on solving Nigeria’s leadership crisis rather than mocking others, highlighting the nation's deeper political issues that hinder progress.
Laolu Akande, a former spokesperson for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has criticized former President Olusegun Obasanjo for making light of other Nigerian leaders. Akande's comments came in response to Obasanjo’s recent remarks during a lecture at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University, where the ex-president discussed Nigeria’s dire situation. Obasanjo highlighted the country’s struggles with immorality, corruption, insecurity, and underdevelopment, which he attributed to the mismanagement under current leadership. He specifically referred to the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, using terms like “Baba-go-slow” and “Emilokan” to express his disapproval.
In his response, Akande advised Obasanjo to focus on constructive criticism rather than mocking sitting presidents. He emphasized that while Nigeria indeed faces significant political challenges, the root cause lies in deeper systemic issues that produce poor leadership. Akande stated that former presidents should offer solutions instead of contributing to the cycle of political dysfunction. He reiterated this perspective during his appearance on Channels Television's Inside Sources, where he expressed concern about how Nigeria’s leadership issues continue to undermine the nation’s progress.
