The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has condemned Omoluabi Progressives, a faction led by former Governor Aregbesola, after they decided to leave the party. The APC dismissed their exit as the start of their political downfall, accusing them of links with the opposition PDP ahead of the 2026 election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has strongly criticized the Omoluabi Progressives group, led by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola after they announced their departure from the party. Omoluabi Progressives cited reasons such as expulsion, unfair treatment, and marginalization within the APC. They also expressed their readiness to join another political party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
In response, Kola Olabisi, Osun APC’s media director, dismissed the group's exit as a "good riddance," predicting that it marks the beginning of their political demise. He accused the group of being linked to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and claimed many of its members had already distanced themselves from the APC long before their official resignation. Olabisi also criticized the group's actions, suggesting that their efforts to destabilize the party had failed and that they would ultimately face defeat in the 2026 election.
The APC’s reaction comes after years of internal conflict, especially following the 2022 governorship election loss. Aregbesola's faction had refused to support the APC candidate, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, leading to a loss to Ademola Adeleke of the PDP. Speculation remains about whether Omoluabi Progressives will align themselves with the PDP as the next election approaches.
