The Osun State government confirms the arrest of Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad leader Moses Lohor and his team following allegations of misconduct and attempted murder. Governor Ademola Adeleke supports the Inspector General’s directive for prosecution after the controversial shooting of a transport chairman, who remains in critical condition at the hospital.
The Osun State government has confirmed the arrest of Moses Lohor, head of the Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and his team members following allegations of unprofessional conduct. Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun ordered the arrest and prosecution of Lohor and his team for their involvement in the shooting of Wakeel Nurudeen Iyanda Alowonle, Chairman of the Osun State Transport Management System.
The incident occurred after Alowonle was detained over a domestic dispute and reportedly shot in the abdomen at the police station. Contradicting earlier claims that he attempted to escape arrest, the state government labeled the incident a suspected case of attempted murder. Alowonle is now on life support at the Osun State Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.
The state’s Special Adviser on Security, Samuel Ojo, emphasized that the police hierarchy viewed the actions of Lohor and his squad as unauthorized and illegal. Governor Adeleke, in a follow-up directive, urged state authorities to monitor the case to ensure justice is served.
The arrested officers have since been transferred to Abuja for further investigation. This decisive move by police authorities underscores a commitment to addressing misconduct within the force and upholding accountability in law enforcement.
