The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a landslide victory in the Osun State local government elections, winning all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 30 LGAs and 332 wards.
The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) Chairman, Hashim Abioye, announced the results in Osogbo on Saturday, declaring the PDP candidates duly elected. He stated that the election followed all constitutional provisions and guidelines, with 18 political parties participating.
Abioye emphasized that official records of the results would be available for verification, affirming that the process adhered to electoral laws. The election aimed to fill existing vacancies across all local government areas in the state.
While the PDP celebrated its clean sweep, opposition parties and independent observers are expected to react to the outcome. Some stakeholders have previously criticized the electoral process in the state, raising concerns over transparency and inclusivity. However, OSSIEC maintained that the election was conducted fairly and in compliance with legal standards.
This victory further solidifies the PDP’s grip on Osun politics, as the ruling party continues to dominate at both state and local levels. Political analysts suggest that the outcome could influence future elections in the state.
As reactions emerge, attention will shift to how the newly elected local government officials will deliver on their promises and manage grassroots governance in Osun State.
