A 10-year-old boy, Shawn Victor Were, collapsed and died after a school punishment at Red Hill Baraka School. Despite showing signs of distress, he was left unattended and later force-fed watermelon, leading to choking. The school’s negligence has sparked outrage, with demands for justice and accountability.

A heartbreaking incident occurred at Red Hill Baraka School, where a 10-year-old boy, Shawn Victor Were, collapsed and later died after being subjected to a harsh punishment.

According to reports, Shawn was made to run a cross-country course as discipline, despite pleading his innocence. While running, he collapsed and began convulsing. Other students saw him foaming at the mouth, but instead of immediate medical attention, he was carried back to the school, where he was left on a mattress.

Shawn’s mother received a call from the school, informing her that he was unwell and speaking incoherently. She immediately asked why he had not been taken to a hospital, but the school claimed there was no vehicle available. His parents rushed to the school and found him in distress, surrounded by teachers with no clear explanation of what had happened.

They transported him to Life-Care Hospital in Kikuyu, but doctors struggled with faulty oxygen equipment. During resuscitation attempts, he vomited undigested food—rice and watermelon—which he had reportedly been given while convulsing, leading to airway obstruction.

When the parents questioned the school, initial denials turned into conflicting statements, with one teacher admitting to giving Shawn watermelon, thinking it would help. The school's response to his death was indifferent, further angering the grieving family.

Outraged social media users have called for justice, demanding accountability from the school and the education authorities. Shawn’s family continues to seek answers, emphasizing the need for better safety measures in schools.
