Three NYSC corps members in Surulere, Lagos, were reportedly extorted of over ₦1 million by police officers. The incident, involving threats and robbery over a missing driver's license, has sparked outrage on social media, highlighting concerns over police corruption and the need for accountability in law enforcement.

In a shocking incident in Surulere, Lagos, police officers have been accused of extorting over ₦1 million from three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. The allegations surfaced on social media, with an X app user reporting that the corps members were threatened with firearms, forcibly taken to the Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House Area C Police Command, and robbed. Their supposed offense was not carrying a physical copy of their driver's license.

The Lagos State Police Command responded to the claims, urging those affected to reach out via WhatsApp for an immediate investigation. However, public reaction has been largely negative, with many users expressing frustration over the corrupt practices within the Nigerian police force. Comments flooded in, with one user labeling the police as "the most corrupt organization in the world," while another pointed out the hypocrisy of a police officer in festive attire extorting money from motorists.

Critics have drawn parallels between this incident and armed robbery, emphasizing the seriousness of the officers' actions. Many users voiced that the police, instead of protecting citizens, have become a threat to their safety. Calls for accountability and reform in the police force have intensified as citizens demand justice for the corps members and an end to such abuses. The outrage on social media highlights a growing discontent with law enforcement in Nigeria, prompting discussions about the urgent need for systemic change.
