A teenage boy, Monday Ariyo, reportedly died after allegedly receiving 164 lashes from a teacher at Obada Grammar School in Ogun State. Following a minor classroom remark, the incident has sparked calls for justice and prompted social outrage, with demands for an investigation into school disciplinary practices.

A tragic incident at Obada Grammar School in Imeko Afon, Ogun State, has sparked widespread outrage after a teenage student, Monday Ariyo, reportedly died from severe punishment. According to accounts shared online, Ariyo was allegedly flogged 164 times by a teacher after he remarked a classroom dustbin. He had commented, "Is it not our money they used to buy it?" The teacher, displeased, reported the comment to the principal, who reportedly instructed Ariyo to be disciplined.

Witnesses allege that the teacher proceeded to administer 164 strokes, after which Ariyo collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, his condition worsened, and he was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta.

A video circulating online shows mourners as Ariyo's body was placed in an ambulance, deepening the call for justice. Social commentator Adetoun publicly condemned the incident, threatening legal action if the boy was buried before a thorough investigation.
