
NAFDAC has shut down 240 illegal factories in Aba’s Cemetery Market, seizing over ₦5 billion worth of counterfeit beverages and food products. The operation uncovered substandard goods, including popular brands like Coca-Cola and Hennessy, produced under unhygienic conditions. Over 1,500 cartons of fake products were destroyed.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has once again closed down the notorious Cemetery Market in Aba, Abia State, after uncovering over 240 illegal factories producing counterfeit food and beverages.
The operation, titled "Operation Clean Up Aba," destroyed fake products worth over ₦5 billion, including popular brands like Hennessy, Coca-Cola, and Peak Milk. NAFDAC's Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, stated that these unlicensed factories used harmful chemicals and unsanitary practices, posing a major health risk. The Abia State Government supported the operation, which also led to the discovery of expired products being revalidated for sale.
