A reckless driver killed OYRTMA officer Kehinde Fabunmi in Ibadan, Oyo State. The driver, who disobeyed a traffic light, attempted to flee but struck Fabunmi while reversing. Authorities have vowed to prosecute the driver, emphasizing the dangers traffic officers face and the need for driver compliance with traffic laws.

A traffic officer, Kehinde Fabunmi, was tragically killed by a reckless driver in Ibadan, Oyo State. The incident occurred on Saturday, December 14, at Agbowo in the Ibadan North Local Government Area. Fabunmi, a Level 4 officer with the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), was reportedly struck by a black 4matic Benz with the number plate LSD 862 JS after the driver ignored a traffic light.

The driver attempted to flee the scene after being apprehended by OYRTMA officers, but in his attempt to escape, he reversed his vehicle and struck Fabunmi, who had approached the front of the vehicle. Fabunmi sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Orogun. Sadly, he was later transferred to another facility where he was pronounced dead.

In response to the incident, Oyo State Government officials, including OYRTMA Chairman Adekoya Adesagba, condemned the killing, emphasizing that the officer was performing his duties to ensure the safety of motorists and commuters in the area. Adesagba also expressed condolences to Fabunmi's family and stressed that the driver would face the full legal consequences for his actions.

The driver was apprehended by police officers and is currently in custody. He has been arraigned at the Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, though the case has been adjourned until Thursday. The Oyo State Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of traffic officers and holding those who violate the law accountable.
