Former Super Eagles forward Victor Ikpeba has praised the Super Falcons for their performance against Brazil in the Paris 2024 Women’s Football tournament, despite their narrow defeat. The match saw Gabi Nunes score the decisive goal for Brazil in the first half, but the Super Falcons impressed with their spirited play.
Ikpeba highlighted the team's determination and effort, particularly noting their strong first-half performance where they were denied goals by Brazil's goalkeeper, Lorena, on three occasions within the first 25 minutes. He commended the players for their passion and teamwork, despite lacking the finishing quality in attack.
“You just must commend the girls; they gave everything. They played with their heart, with determination, with passion,” said Ikpeba, the 1997 African Footballer of the Year. “They had their moments in the first half, but unfortunately, they didn’t make the most of them. They probably lacked the quality in attack, but they have everything to be proud of. The Super Eagles must learn from how they fight for each other.”
The nine-time African champions will face Spain in their second Group C game in Nantes on Sunday, where fans hope they will bounce back from the defeat. Nigerian fans on social media have shown overwhelming support for the team, with many echoing Ikpeba’s sentiments.
Despite the setback, the Super Falcons’ resilience and determination have garnered admiration from fans and football analysts alike, as they prepare for their upcoming match against Spain.
