The wage dispute between Kylian Mbappé and PSG intensified as a Paris court froze the club’s funds over €55 million in unpaid wages. Mbappé, now a Real Madrid star, pursues legal action while advocating for broader players' rights. A full hearing is set for May 26 amid rising tensions.
The ongoing wage battle between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain escalated Thursday as the Judicial Court of Paris authorized a protective freeze on funds from the club’s accounts, pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
Mbappé, now playing for Real Madrid, claims he is owed €55 million in unpaid salaries and bonuses from his former club. His legal team welcomed the court’s decision, describing it as a significant step in securing the payment. A full hearing on the matter is scheduled for May 26.
“This is about an employee holding a powerful organization accountable,” Delphine Verheyden, one of Mbappé’s attorneys, said at a press briefing in Paris. She emphasized that the case goes beyond her client, aiming to defend the rights of professional athletes facing similar disputes.
Mbappé is also preparing to escalate the matter to the labour courts, aligning with broader efforts by the French players' union (UNFP), which has criticized clubs for allegedly sidelining players as a form of pressure.
An unnamed PSG official, speaking to AFP, dismissed concerns about the case, expressing confidence that the club would ultimately prevail.
Since transferring to Real Madrid in June 2024 after seven seasons in Paris, Mbappé has thrived, netting 22 goals in La Liga and another seven in the Champions League this season.
