The APC held its NEC meeting in Abuja, attended by top leaders but missing Buhari, El-Rufai, and Amaechi. Their absence raises concerns about internal divisions. President Tinubu, VP Shettima, and key governors were present as discussions focused on party strategy and governance amid growing tensions within the ruling party.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) convened its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, drawing key party leaders but notably missing former President Muhammadu Buhari, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi. Their absence has fueled speculation about internal party rifts and shifting political dynamics.

The meeting, held at the APC National Secretariat, was heavily secured, with roads around Blantyre Street blocked by armed personnel, including soldiers from the Guards Brigade. Journalists faced restricted access despite prior accreditation. Attendees included President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas. The gathering, the first since Tinubu assumed office, follows a caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa.

While the agenda focused on party strategy and governance, the absence of Buhari, El-Rufai, and Amaechi raised eyebrows. El-Rufai, who recently criticized the APC’s internal democracy, had been in the spotlight after withdrawing from Tinubu’s ministerial list. Amaechi, once a close Tinubu ally, has kept a low profile since the 2023 elections. Their absence hints at possible fractures within the party’s power structure, leaving analysts speculating on the future cohesion of the ruling party.
