Prof. Pat Utomi criticizes state actors' panic over a planned protest, highlighting the need for integrity and social justice in Nigeria. At the launch of 'New Tribe,' he stresses unity beyond ethnicity and faith, urging pragmatic solutions to economic and security challenges.
Political economist Prof. Pat Utomi has expressed concern over the panic caused by state actors regarding a planned protest set to begin on August 1. Speaking at the launch of the 'New Tribe', a social group dedicated to integrity, social justice, and public service, Utomi highlighted the worrisome state of the nation. He noted that the anxiety surrounding the protest has led to threats, bullying, and falsehoods from state agents.
Utomi emphasized that organizations like the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Chambers of Commerce are alarmed by rising interest rates and ongoing insecurity, which monetary authorities are struggling to manage. He lamented the decline in societal values and the urgency to restore them.
'The New Tribe' aims to address these issues by uniting citizens committed to meritocracy, social justice, and economic productivity, while rejecting the divisive politics of ethnicity and faith. Utomi stressed that this movement, which is nonpartisan but actively engages in social action, seeks to foster a culture of merit and accountability.
Set to be formally unveiled on October 1, the New Tribe has been active since its portal went live on May 1, with key focus areas including healthcare, community building, public accountability, infrastructure, economic growth, and elections. Utomi's message calls for a collective effort to rectify the nation's current challenges and promote the common good.
