Paul Ibe, spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, revealed ongoing talks between Atiku and Peter Obi to unite against APC’s “incompetent administration.” Drawing lessons from their 2023 defeat, both leaders are exploring collaboration to strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections, aiming to offer Nigerians better governance and renewed hope.

Paul Ibe, the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has hinted at potential unity between Atiku and Labour Party’s Peter Obi. Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Ibe suggested that both leaders have drawn lessons from their defeat in the last general election and are determined to work together to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the 2023 election, Atiku and Obi collectively garnered over 12 million votes but lost to APC’s Bola Tinubu, who secured over 8 million votes. Ibe noted that disunity between the PDP and LP had undermined their chances and emphasized the need for collaboration going forward.

“Nigerians deserve better than what they are getting. It’s never been this bad in this country, and there is no hope,” Ibe remarked, underscoring the urgency for a united front.

He revealed that Atiku has been advocating for opposition parties to join forces, acknowledging ongoing discussions between the camps. “Lessons have been learned from 2023 by all parties, including Atiku Abubakar. They want to be united and move forward,” Ibe added.

Although Ibe refrained from confirming whether Atiku might step down for Obi in the 2027 presidential race, he affirmed that “all options are on the table.” Analysts believe a unified effort between the PDP and LP could pose a formidable challenge to the APC in future elections.
