PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu has dismissed Atiku Abubakar’s opposition coalition, urging party members to focus on unity. Backed by Wike’s camp, he insists PDP remains strong enough for 2027. Despite past leadership disputes, insiders call for reconciliation to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the next elections.
The political faction led by Nyesom Wike has dismissed the coalition efforts championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, asserting that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) remains strong enough to contest future elections independently. PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, a key Wike ally, reaffirmed that internal party disputes have been resolved and urged members to abandon coalition talks, emphasizing that unity within the PDP is the only viable path forward.
Anyanwu, who was recently reinstated by the Supreme Court, downplayed discussions about the opposition alliance, which includes Atiku, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He insisted that PDP members should focus on strengthening the party rather than aligning with external groups. Meanwhile, party insiders acknowledge lingering tensions within the PDP’s leadership but stress the need for reconciliation to rebuild confidence ahead of the 2027 elections.
