The PDP has rejected the outcome of the Ondo State governorship election, alleging widespread manipulation, vote-buying, and voter suppression. The party claims the election was neither free nor fair and vows to review the results and take appropriate actions. Aiyedatiwa of APC was declared the winner.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of the Ondo State governorship election, calling for a review of the process. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner after securing 366,781 votes. Aiyedatiwa defeated his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the PDP, who earned 117,845 votes.
In a statement issued by PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, the party expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that the election fell short of being free, fair, and credible. Ologunagba described the election as one marked by "electoral manipulation," claiming that there were widespread instances of vote-buying, electoral fraud, and voter suppression.
The PDP further criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for overseeing what they considered to be a highly flawed electoral process. According to the statement, the election was a "complete betrayal" of democratic principles. Ologunagba also called on the Nigerian government and the international community to take action to address the alleged malpractice and ensure the integrity of future elections.
The PDP has indicated that it will review the election's outcome and take appropriate steps to challenge the results. As the controversy over the election continues, many are awaiting the party’s next move, including the possibility of pursuing legal challenges to the results.
