The ongoing crisis within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) intensifies as key members clash over leadership issues. Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere blames Acting Chairman Umar Damagum and former Governor Nyesom Wike for the party's instability, while Ibrahim Abdullahi points to Atiku Abubakar's past decisions as detrimental to the party's health.
The internal strife within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) intensified as key members of the National Working Committee (NWC) clashed over the party's ongoing crisis. A heated exchange occurred between Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere and Ibrahim Abdullahi, revealing deep divisions regarding the party's leadership. Abdullahi blamed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the party's woes, while Ugochinyere pointed fingers at Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Ugochinyere expressed concern that the PDP was losing its members, comparing its umbrella symbol to one that no longer accommodates its stakeholders. He accused Wike of betraying the party by supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and criticized Damagum's leadership for worsening the party's instability.
Conversely, Abdullahi argued that Atiku’s management of internal conflicts had weakened the PDP, particularly after five governors defected before the 2023 elections. He suggested that Atiku's leadership had contributed to the rise of Muhammadu Buhari's administration, which he deemed disastrous.
As the NWC members continue to clash over accountability, the PDP faces a significant challenge in uniting its factions. With other stakeholders advocating for reforms, the party’s ability to reclaim its political influence is uncertain, especially with an election period approaching and the need for effective opposition against the ruling government.
